PROST TO OKTOBERFEST!
Oktoberfest - a word that evokes images of Dirndl and Lederhosen clad servers hauling impossible numbers of steins between tables teaming with merry revellers – beer tents adorned with garlands of green hops, the sound of oompah bands carried on the air, mingling with the comforting scent of freshly baked pretzels. It’s a strong image, but how did this portrait of German society develop over 200 years of history, and why is it still so widely celebrated today?
Foaming maβ aplenty!
The festival began in 1810 as a multi-day celebration of the wedding of the Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig to Princess Therese, growing from a public feast with horse racing, to a two week-long carnival of Bavarian culture, with rides, music and of course – beer! It is the largest folk festival in the world, with roughly 6 million visitors traveling to Munich each year to witness the tapping of the first keg by the city’s mayor and raise a stein with the local community.
The traditional celebration has grown far beyond the medieval city of its origins and is now a key feature in the global beer calendar. At Lost and Grounded, we’ve been running our own Oktoberfest for years — and for us, it’s more than just a party. As a brewery dedicated to traditional German-style beers, this is our opportunity to engage with the rich history of this country. From the precision of German brewing techniques to the cultural traditions surrounding beer, it’s a heritage that is engrained in who we are as a brewery, and one we’re proud to bring to life.
In previous years we’ve gone all out – The lederhosen, the maβ, the oompah band – but this year, we’ve put a new Lost and Grounded twist on things. We’ve decided to ditch the dirndls and go Rock and Roll! Live bands and vinyl DJ’s will take us through the day, guaranteeing you’ll be up on your feet (though not on the tables please!). There will still be some traditional features - we’ve decked our taproom with strings of hop bines, we’ve got the wonderful Clifton Sausage slinging out top notch German-inspired food, and we’ll be tapping the annual release of our beautiful Festbier!
No obligation to dress up – just rock up and rock out with foaming steins and great friends.
Prost!
